The U.S. Open will return to New Jersey in 2046.
The United States Golf Association announced July 22 that Baltusrol Golf Club will host the championship, along with the 2033 U.S. Mid-Amateur, 2039 U.S. Amateur and a future U.S. Women’s Open, adding four more USGA championships to the historic Springfield club’s storied legacy.
The four future championships will bring Baltusrol’s total number of USGA events hosted to 20, the fourth-most of any club in the country. The 2046 U.S. Open will mark the club’s first since Lee Janzen’s victory in 1993, while the 2033 U.S. Mid-Amateur will be the first time Baltusrol has hosted that championship.
USGA Chief Championships Officer John Bodenhamer said Baltusrol has long been one of the organization’s signature championship venues.
“Few clubs have played a larger role in USGA championship history than Baltusrol, and we’re excited to continue that partnership for the next generation of championships,” said Bodenhamer. “From the club’s leadership to its membership, Baltusrol has always embraced what it means to host a national championship, and the club has repeatedly proven itself as a stage that identifies deserving champions at every level of the game.”

Founded in 1895, Baltusrol has hosted seven U.S. Opens, four U.S. Amateurs, two U.S. Women’s Opens, two U.S. Women’s Amateurs and the 2018 U.S. Junior Amateur. The club also hosted PGA Championships won by Phil Mickelson in 2005 and Jimmy Walker in 2016, the 2023 KPMG Women’s PGA Championship won by Ruoning Yin, and is scheduled to host the 2029 PGA Championship.
Baltusrol President Doug Rotatori said the latest awards continue a championship tradition that spans more than a century.
“Baltusrol has been part of the fabric of American championship golf for more than a century, and we are honored that the USGA continues to entrust our membership with hosting some of the game’s most important events,” said Rotatori. “The 2033 U.S. Mid-Amateur, 2039 U.S. Amateur, 2046 U.S. Open and future U.S. Women’s Open represent an extraordinary run of championships for our club, and our membership and staff look forward to preparing our venue to once again test the best players in the world.”
The 2046 U.S. Open will be played on Baltusrol’s famed Lower Course, while the 2033 U.S. Mid-Amateur and 2039 U.S. Amateur will use both the Lower and Upper courses. The USGA said the date and course for the future U.S. Women’s Open will be announced at a later time.
