WWE will return to Atlantic City for its first televised events in nearly two decades. A double taping of Monday Night Raw and Friday Night SmackDown will take place June 29 at Jim Whelan Boardwalk Hall.
WWE made the announcement in partnership with Visit Atlantic City, the Atlantic City Sports Commission and Oak View Group.
Atlantic City has long played a major role in WWE history. The seaside resort previously hosted WrestleMania IV in 1988 and WrestleMania V in 1989. It has also support numerous other live events over the years. The June event will mark the first WWE televised event held in Atlantic City since SmackDown in 2008.
Visit Atlantic City President and CEO Gary Musich said the return marks another exciting chapter in the city’s ongoing evolution as a premier entertainment destination.
“From legendary WrestleMania moments to today’s world-class performances, Atlantic City continues to deliver dynamic, year-round experiences for visitors,” said Musich. “Hosting Monday Night Raw at Jim Whelan Boardwalk Hall underscores our commitment to bringing globally recognized events … and reinforces the energy, excitement, and nonstop entertainment that define Atlantic City.”
Jim McDonald is general manager of Boardwalk Hall for Oak View Group. He pointed to the rich, shared history among Jim Whelan Boardwalk Hall, Atlantic City and WWE.
“We are grateful to partner with Visit Atlantic City, the Atlantic City Sports Commission, and WWE to bring two major nationally televised events – Monday Night Raw and SmackDown,” said McDonald. “Our team is looking forward to welcoming back the WWE and their incredibly loyal fan base back to Boardwalk Hall and Atlantic City.”
