For the first time, Valley Medical Group is offering urology services — and has added two specialists for the practice. 

The new office is located at 1200 E. Ridgewood Ave., Suite 205, in Ridgewood. It provides comprehensive medical and surgical services for men and women with diseases and disorders of the urinary system as well as for men with reproductive health issues, according to a Jan. 27 announcement from the Valley Health System entity. 

Medical Director Dr. Nick Liu and Dr. David Ahlborn staff the new office. According to a Valley Health LinkedIn post, Ahlborn’s father, Dr. Thomas Ahlborn, recently retired as a general surgeon with VMG. The senior Ahlborn had served on The Valley Hospital medical staff for 37 years.

Urologists use state-of-the-art technology to perform minimally invasive outpatient procedures in the Ridgewood office and at Valley-Mount Sinai Comprehensive Cancer Care in Paramus. Inpatient surgeries will take place at the new Valley Hospital in Paramus. 

The VMG specialists will diagnosis and treat urologic cancers as well as benign disorders, including kidney stones, enlarged prostate, urinary tract infections, urinary incontinence, erectile dysfunction, male infertility, genitourinary syndrome of menopause and hormonal issues. 

The office also offers wellness care, such as cancer screenings, disease prevention and vasectomies.

The latest treatments

“With a focus on state-of-the-art, compassionate urologic medical and surgical care and the multidisciplinary treatment of patients with urologic cancers, we provide the latest advances in diagnostics, treatment, continuing care, and disease surveillance,” Ahlborn said in a statement. 

Lui highlighted two new technological innovations the team offers: the da Vinci robotic surgical system and NanoKnife system. 

Liu called the NanoKnife a “game-changer” in treating prostate cancer because it allows physicians to “preserve the healthy areas of the prostate, and limit post-operative complications of incontinence and erectile dysfunction.”
