Walmart is gearing up to unveil its newly remodeled Supercenter in Howell.

Scheduled to hold a Nov. 3 grand re-opening event, the retail giant’s location at 4900 Route 9 now features numerous expanded shopping options aimed at helping consumers save time and money, including:

  • Activated corners: Displays featured at the corners of home lines, baby and apparel to pull customers in and help them touch, feel and become part of the space.
  • Elevated departments: Displays showcasing products that are out of their boxes so customers can imagine fitting them into their daily lives.
  • New products and categories: Such as, an expanded pet department with a selection of Freshpet food; apparel brands like Reebok, Polo, Chaps and Sam & Libby; and the addition of Latin and International selections in grocery.
  • Reconfigured layout: The store provides more convenient access to well-shopped areas, like baby food, pets and paper products, as well as an upgraded pharmacy at the front for easier customer access.
  • Improved checkout area: Upgrades include a front-end transformation with self-checkout lanes, staffed registers and four dedicated lanes for + members.
  • Refreshed interior and exterior: Including paint and signage for easier navigation through the store and lighting upgrades.
  • Digital touchpoints: Found throughout the store, the additions help customers learn more about the products and services Walmart offers online.

After an 8:30 a.m. ribbon-cutting ceremony, Walmart will keep the celebration going with free tastings and treats from vendors, visits from various mascots – including the famed Phillie Phanatic – plus music, fun and games.

The store will also give several grants to local charities, including $2,500 to the Howell Township Police Department for its annual “Shop with a Cop” event; $1,500 to Girl Scouts of Monmouth County; $1,500 to Spread Kindness of Lakewood, a local nonprofit helping those in need; and $1,500 to United States Submarine Veterans Inc.

Walmart Store Manager Yvonne Angello shared in a statement, “This store is a vital part of our community, providing a place for people to shop, connect, and build relationships. I’m proud of this store and each of our associates who work hard every day to serve our customers and communities. I’m confident our customers will love these updates and I know our associates can’t wait to welcome them.”

Howell – along with 116 other stores across the U.S. – are all being re-launched this week, showcasing more than $500 million in capital investments, according to the retailer.

In a statement, Walmart U.S. CEO John Furner said, “We’re investing more than $9 billion over a two-year period to upgrade and modernize more than 1,400 of our stores across the U.S.”

“With nearly 90% of the U.S. population living within 10 miles of a Walmart, we understand how important our local stores are to customers and communities, and these construction investments allow us to create more local jobs and make it easier for our associates to get customers what they want, when they want it,” he stated.

The upgrades at Howell are part of the Bentonville, Ark.-based corporation’s $75 million investment to refresh and 11 stores in New Jersey over the next two years.

Along with debuting three flagship stores – Secaucus, North Bergen and Teterboro – the retailer has already upgraded other Supercenters, including East Brunswick, Freehold, Bayonne and Linden.
