85°C Cafe, a global brand known for offering gourmet pastries, coffee and teas at affordable prices, is making its East Coast debut in New Jersey.

After signing a deal to lease a 2,700-square-foot space at Brace Road Station shopping center in Cherry Hill, the Taiwanese chain expects to open its new location during the second quarter of 2024, according to Katz & Associates, the Englewood Cliffs-based real estate brokerage firm representing the eatery.

Founded 20 years ago in Taiwan – and named for the perfect temperature to brew espresso coffee – the popular chain is known for its handcrafted drinks, freshly baked pastries and breads.

Along with basic coffee shop fare, like Danish, strudel and croissant, the menu includes savory options, such as garlic cheese bread, potato croquettes and cheese dogs. There’s also Taiwanese specialties made using ingredients popular in the East Asian country, such as taro puff pastry, ube bread and red bean bread.

85°C Bakery Cafe now has over 1,000 stores worldwide, including locations in China, Cambodia and Australia. Since its 2008 U.S. arrival in California, the company has grown to 60-plus cafes across Washington, Oregon, Nevada, Utah, Texas, Hawaii and Arizona.

In announcing the lease agreement for Brace Road Station, Amy Staats, vice president at , cited the property’s market demographics and co-tenancy as why the location is a perfect fit for the brand’s first East Coast outpost.

“Anchored by Hung Vuong Market with other cultural food options, this was an ideal opportunity. 85°C Bakery Cafe does not currently have any drive thru restaurants open, but the opportunity to be freestanding in the center was attractive. While we typically look for end-cap or in-line 3,000 – 3,500-square-foot opportunities, we will consider all options if they make sense,” she said.

Katz & Associates is also working on several additional leases for the chain and seeking sites in New Jersey, New York and Pennsylvania, according to Staats.
