Lidl recalls chocolate ladybugs over undeclared hazelnuts

Lidl is recalling ladybug-shaped chocolate candies over a labeling mishap.

In a March 12 announcement, the discount supermarket chain said it recalled all lots of – German-Style Nougat after discovering the product may contain undeclared hazelnuts.

According to , the affected product comes in a 3.52-ounce box with a UPC code of 20304492. It was distributed between Jan. 28 and March 11 to all Lidl stores across Delaware, Georgia, Maryland, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, South Carolina and Virginia.

For individuals with hazelnut allergies, consuming the product could lead to serious or life-threatening allergic reactions. According to Lidl, there have been no reports of illness related to the recall. Lidl is advising customers who purchased the item to not consume it. The item can be returned to any Lidl store for a full refund. Customers may also contact the company at 844-747-5435.

“The health and safety of our customers is our top priority. Lidl US regrets any inconvenience related to this voluntary recall. Our Quality Assurance Department is constantly working to ensure that all products on our shelves meet the high-quality standards that we would expect when feeding our own families.

“We are grateful for all our Lidl US customers who choose to shop with us every day,” the chain said.

Known for fresh produce, meat, bakery items and an array of household products at low prices, German-born Lidl has more than 12,000 stores worldwide.

Since establishing a U.S. headquarters a decade ago, the brand has launched nearly 200 locations along the East Coast. Within New Jersey, Lidl has over two dozen stores.
