New Jersey’s oldest artificial intelligence company included on the latest NJBIZ list of AI firms in the state is Innodata Inc., which was established in 1988 in Ridgefield Park.

In the following decades – accelerating in the 2000s and 2010s – more and more companies entered the market. Openstream.ai launched in Bridgewater in 2000 with its conversational AI; and Artificial Medical Intelligence was founded in 2002 in Marlboro to streamline the production of medical documentation and infrastructure. The wave continued with the creation of ElectrifAi in Jersey City in 2004.

The year 2010 saw the rise of Axtria Inc. in Berkeley Heights, which assists life sciences organizations with information, analytics and technology on the cloud. The following years brought more innovation, including the launch of TeliApp Corp. in Linden City and Thinkster Math in Kendall Park, both founded in 2012.

By 2017, the industry growth accelerated. Claim Genius was created in Iselin to focus on vehicle inspections, while WhizAI emerged in Somerset for the life sciences industry, and True Reply Inc. in Sparta focused on intelligent voice AI.

The momentum continued into 2018, with SkyeBrowse in Cranbury for drone technology. Through 2020, companies such as NextTrial AI LLC joined the field, making New Jersey a center for AI development.
