Micro Center is unveiling a refresh of its longtime store in Paterson.
The series of renovations aimed to modernize the customer experience. The specialty tech retailer’s 35,000-square-foot McLean Boulevard outpost now features:
Micro Center also added immersive setups throughout the store to allow customers to see high-end hardware in action, including racing sim rigs and 3D printers. Additionally, the new store design has enabled the retailer to put more inventory on display, according to Micro Center.
Founded in 1979, Micro Center has grown from a single computer shop in Ohio into a chain with roughly 30 locations nationwide. Along with selling computers, laptops, PC parts, gaming gear, peripherals, networking equipment and accessories, the chain offers in-store repair and tech services.
Micro Center made its New Jersey debut in 2007 at a former CompUSA store in Paterson. The location remains the retailer’s only in-state site.
Thanks to its location within the Paterson Urban Enterprise Zone (UEZ), customers at Micro Center benefit from a reduced sales tax rate of 3.3125% – half the standard 6.625% New Jersey rate – on in-person retail sales.
“On high-ticket items like flagship GPUs or professional workstations, these savings are substantial, making North Jersey the most financially savvy destination for tech in the region,” the chain noted.
The store stayed open throughout the renovation project, according to Micro Center.
As part of a May 2 grand reopening event, Micro Center will hand out free mugs and free 128GB flash drives. It will also host live builds and appearances from content creators. Additionally, Micro Center will build a gaming PC on site. And then give it away to one lucky attendee, the store said.
The store is open daily Monday to Saturday, 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.; and Sunday 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
