An iconic Bergen County hamburger joint is getting a new address.
After receiving approval from the Hackensack Planning Board, White Manna Hamburgers will relocate its 80-year-old building to a different site about a mile away, Jersey Digs first reported.
Officials gave the project the green light June 10. It calls for the Art Deco-style diner to be lifted, transported and placed on a new foundation before a one-story addition is constructed behind it.
According to the application submitted by Teaneck-based limited liability firm Esther Realty, White Manna’s existing 276-square-foot building will move from its longtime home at 358 River St. to two vacant parcels at 112-120 Hackensack Ave.
The new site at the corner of Temple and Hackensack avenues is located across from Target, Taco Bell and Valley Bank. Fairleigh Dickinson University is also just west of the property across the Hackensack River.
The 1,600-square-foot addition will include a larger kitchen, ADA-accessible dining space, restrooms, an office, storage areas and dedicated takeout section. White Manna also plans to preserve signature features, like its iconic neon sign, as well as create 17 parking spaces, the application says.
Jersey Digs reported that the Bergen County Department of Planning and Engineering granted conditional approval in July 2025.
Under a developer agreement, Esther Realty will pay $26,400 for improvements along Hackensack Avenue, according to the news outlet. The project calls for upgrades to sidewalks, curbing and drainage, as well as utility work.
White Manna did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
Known for its sliders, crinkle-cut fries and milkshakes, White Manna has operated at its River Street location since 1946.
Over the years, White Manna has earned accolades from numerous publications, such as NJ.com and Thrillist, as one of the best burger destinations. The eatery has featured in several shows on the Food Network, including “Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives,” as well as the Travel Channel’s “Anthony Bourdain: No Reservations.”
