When it comes to the brands U.S. consumers consider the most trustworthy, many of them are made right here in New Jersey, according to a new ranking.

Conducted by market research firm BrandSpark International in collaboration with , the 11th annual Most Trusted survey gathered input from 26,646 shoppers on brands they trust the most across 256 categories of products, retail and services.

While Americans increasingly turn to discount retail to cope with inflation, the analysis found that for many staples customers are sticking with tried-and-true leading brands, including these New Jersey-made ones: Campbell’s soup, Lysol disinfectant spray, Nutella hazelnut spread and Band Aid bandages.

Commenting on this year’s report, Philip Scrutton, vice president of consumer & shopper insight at BrandSpark, said it “reveals again that product or service quality, fair price, consistency, and transparency have the strongest impact on building trust with consumers.”

He went on to say, “BrandSpark hopes that this knowledge empowers brands to incorporate trust drivers strategically into their product and marketing efforts to strengthen relationships with consumers and establish a meaningful differentiation.”

Though Procter & Gamble in Ohio dominated the list – scooping up dozens of No. 1 in the areas of household & cleaning and beauty & personal care – several New Jersey-headquartered consumer packaged goods companies also fared well.

  • Skillman-based Inc., formerly the consumer health care division of Johnson & Johnson, whose portfolio includes Band-Aid, Neutrogena, Tylenol, Visine, Listerine, Aveeno and Rogaine.
  • in Warren, a spinoff of GSK Group’s consumer health care business, which produces Centrum, Emergen-C, Caltrate, Flonase, Theraflu, Advil and Tums.
  • Reckitt Benckiser Group in Parsippany, the maker of Air Wick, Easy-Off, Lysol, Resolve and Finish.
  • Englewood Cliffs-headquartered Unilever, whose family boasts big names like Ben & Jerry’s, Breyers, Lipton, Dove, Q-Tips, Axe and Degree.
  • Mondelez International, which has its North American base in East Hanover and is the company behind Chips Ahoy, Wheat Thins, Triscuit, Ritz and Halls.
  • Consumer health giant Johnson & Johnson in New Brunswick, whose products include Acuvue.

Other food companies recognized include:
  • Campbell Soup Co. in Camden, whose brands include its namesake soup and broths, as well as Prego sauce;
  • Parsippany’s Ferrero Group, which makes Nutella;
  • Baby food brand Gerber Products Co., a Nestle Global subsidiary based in Florham Park; and
  • Cedar Knolls-based Eggland’s Best.

Local pharmaceutical giants that made the list also included Merck in Kenilworth, Nestle Health Science in Hoboken and Novartis in East Hanover.
