  • Mt. Pleasant Animal Shelter recently received a $2,500 grant from national nonprofit Petco Love. Nonprofit organization Mt. Pleasant Animal Shelter offers new beginnings to pets in need. The shelter has served North Jersey since 1972, providing care for pets and working to find loving homes for every dog and cat it serves. In 2025, 1,028 pets were able to find homes through Mt.   • Department of Environmental Protection acting Commissioner Ed Potosnak and NJDEP Forest Fire Service officials dedicated the Veterans Fire Tower in Jackson Township March 25 to enhance wildfire protection in Monmouth and Ocean counties. The introduction marks the first such new structure in the state in 78 years. It arrives along with the start of spring wildfire season. Veterans Tower is part of a statewide network of 21 fire towers that provide critical early detection systems for wildfires. It stands 133 feet tall and will help protect more than 516,000 residents and nearly 200,000 homes. Named for its location off East Veterans Highway, the tower is dedicated to New Jersey veterans in recognition of the United States’ 250th anniversary. - PROVIDED BY NJDEP
  • The Southern New Jersey Development Council hosted Kris Kolluri, president and CEO of NJ Transit and executive director of the New Jersey Turnpike Authority, at its Public Policy Speaker Series March 25 at the Courtyard by Marriott in Glassboro. The event convened regional business leaders, transportation stakeholders, and public officials to discuss the infrastructure investments, policy priorities and long-term vision shaping the future of transportation in South Jersey. Ali Houshmand, president of Rowan University, welcomed attendees. State Sen. John Burzichelli also provided introductory remarks. Kolluri highlighted major infrastructure initiatives impacting South Jersey, including progress on the Glassboro-Camden Light Rail Line and the revitalization of the Walter Rand Transportation Center in Camden. <br />

  • Middlesex County was recognized March 24 at the 15th Annual New Jersey’s Leading Capital Construction Projects Awards Program, hosted by the New Jersey Alliance for Action, for its transformative projects within its Community, Innovation, and Opportunity (CIO) Strategic Investment Plan. The County received awards for two cornerstone projects: the Middlesex County Innovation Magnet School and the Multipurpose Community Venue and Student Center — both key initiatives designed to expand educational access, strengthen community amenities and foster long-term economic growth.   • Manasquan-based full-service marketing firm Design 446 received 15 awards at the 38th Annual Sales and Marketing Awards March 25 at Hard Rock Casino & Resort in Atlantic City. The event, hosted by the New Jersey Builders Association, came as part of the Atlantic Builders Convention, the largest building industry trade show in the Northeast. Design 446 garnered awards across an array of categories, including Best Website, Best Direct Mail Piece, Best Brochure, Best Print Ad and Best Use of Social Media. Design 446 was also on the winning teams of Lennar, Roger Mumford Homes, American Properties Realty Inc., Pulte Homes and Kaplan Cos. for a variety of awards including four Community of the Year Grand Awards for Bridgeview by Pulte Homes, Hopewell Parc by Lennar, Camelot on Main Street by Kaplan Homes and Manalapan Grove by Lennar. - PROVIDED BY DESIGN 446
