As the continues to grip the state and region, leaders continue to take action.

The within the 13-state region announced they will join together to host a one-day technical conference. The event is set for Sept. 23 in Philadelphia. This follows a recent letter sent by a number of those governors to PJM calling for reforms and new leadership. It also comes in the wake of the results of the 2026/27 Base Residual Auction. NJBIZ reported on both developments.

The governors say the conference aims to explore options to protect ratepayers in their respective states. Additionally, it will explore solutions to the current challenges, including electricity affordability, how the regional grid operator makes decisions, and maintaining grid reliability as demand rises.

“Without the leadership of governors and the hard-fought temporary capacity market cap, inclusion of reliability-must-run units and other reforms recommended by the states, PJM’s utility cost crisis would have grown exponentially,” said Gov. Phil Murphy in a July 23 press release. “Today I’m announcing, alongside every governor in PJM, that we will host a technical conference to explore options to protect electricity consumers and restore confidence in PJM’s ability to meet the many affordability and governance challenges of this moment.”

Key conference details:

  • Takes place at the National Constitution Center in Philadelphia
  • Will feature speakers and panel discussions
  • Event open to anyone who registers
  • Further details will come out in the coming weeks, including a full agenda as well as the questions each panel will seek to address
