The latest NJBIZ list ranks 25 Newark businesses based on the number of New Jersey employees. 

Operating from Terminal C at Newark Liberty International Airport, United Airlines takes the No. 1 spot. Established in 1932, the airline employs 14,000 people in New Jersey. 

Public Service Enterprise Group ranks second among Newark businesses. The organization maintains offices at 80 Park Plaza. It was founded in 1903 and employs 13,000 people in New Jersey. Ralph LaRossa as well as Kim Hanemann serve as senior executives. 

University Hospital ranks third. Established in 1882 and located at 150 Bergen St., the hospital employs 4,000 people. The facility functions as a Level 1 Trauma Center for the region. Carole Johnson was recently named the health care facility’s new CEO. 

The County of Essex ranks fourth. The county maintains offices at the Hall of Records on Dr. MLK Jr. Boulevard in Newark. It was established in 1798 and employs 3,620 people. Joseph DiVincenzo Jr. serves as a senior executive. 

New Jersey Institute of Technology rounds out the top five among Newark employers. Founded in 1881, the higher education institution employs 2,677 people. The university focuses on science, technology and design.
