Discount supermarket chain Aldi is preparing to launch its 62nd store in New Jersey.
Located at 625 Hamburg Turnpike in Wayne, the store’s planned Oct. 31 opening will follow an 8:45 a.m. ribbon-cutting ceremony.
The festivities will include a free tote bag of Aldi “goodies” and “golden tickets” worth up to $100 to the first 100 customers.
The supermarket will keep the party going by giving away $500 Aldi gift cards between Oct. 31 and Nov. 3. Additional details will be available at the store. In advance of the grand opening, Aldi plans to offer shoppers a sneak peak Oct. 30, the chain said.
Founded 63 years ago in Germany, Aldi is known for its low prices and private label brands. Since its U.S. debut in 1976, the brand has gone on to open nearly 2,400 stores.
As part of a $3.4 billion initiative to expand its footprint and modernize its existing stores, Aldi has grown its presence across New Jersey by building new locations and revamping old ones over the past five years.
In March, the company announced it will invest $9 billion to add 800 new stores across the U.S. over the next four years. About 330 of those supermarkets will open in the Northeast and Midwest.
The upcoming Wayne store marks Aldi’s third outpost in Passaic County, after Clifton and Totowa. To mark its arrival there, Aldi plans to donate $1,000 to Feeding America, the nation’s largest domestic hunger relief organization.
Additionally, the store will work to ensure food that is no longer sellable but still edible is available to the local community through the nonprofit’s network.
