After Stop & Shop announced plans to shutter 10 stores across New Jersey, Food Bazaar Supermarket will take over two of those locations.

The ethnic grocery banner recently opened in Carlstadt (675 Paterson Ave.) and plans to launch mid-October in Piscataway (581 Stelton Road).

Founded in 1988, the chain is known for its wide selection of international food and mainstream groceries, including fresh produce, meats, deli items, dairy and frozen essentials.

The privately owned, Queens, N.Y.-headquartered company has a footprint of about 35 stores in the Northeast. Within New Jersey, Food Bazaar can be found in Elizabeth, Fairview, North Bergen and West New York.

Besides Carlstadt and Piscataway, ‘s will also soon shutter two stores in Edison, as well as locations in Howell, Phillipsburg, Franklin Township, Ringwood, Point Pleasant Beach and Jackson.

Outside of New Jersey, the Ahold Delhaize-owned chain plans to close eight stores in Massachusetts, seven stores in New York, five stores in Connecticut and two stores in Rhode Island.

Stop & Shop said its decision to close the locations is part of a larger effort to improve company performance and that the stores were “underperforming.”

Following the closures, Stop & Shop will operate more than 350 stores spanning five states:

  • 81 stores in Connecticut
  • 115 in Massachusetts
  • 47 in New Jersey
  • 91 in New York
  • 25 in Rhode Island

The company has also said it wants to build new stores and remodel remaining ones as well as increase the number of store-brand products offered and reduce prices.
