Popular chicken and biscuits chain is kicking off an expansion effort in New Jersey.

After signing a 10-unit development deal in 2022 with the North Carolina-based fast-food brand, franchisees Dipak Patel and Agam Vaidya are preparing to open their first outpost.

Located at 1000 Stelton Road in Piscataway, the restaurant will serve Cajun-seasoned fried chicken, buttermilk biscuits, sandwiches, salads, sides and desserts. Bojangles will feature interior seating and double drive-thru lanes.

A spokesperson for Bojangles said the official opening date is 5:30 a.m. April 23.

Following its grand opening, Bojangles in Piscataway will operate 5:30 a.m. to 1 a .m. daily.

Formerly the site of an Exxon gas station and repair shop, the 1.23-acre property underwent significant upgrades to become a modern dining destination.

, the Paramus-headquartered real estate brokerage that facilitated the deal, touted the location’s strategic appeal in a growing commercial corridor. It noted proximity to retailers such as ShopRite, Target, Walmart and Lowe’s Home Improvement.

Under their deal with Bojangles, Patel and Vaidya have a territory that includes Middlesex, Essex, Union, Bergen and Hudson counties.

Something different

Shortly after signing an agreement with the chain, Vaidya said they’re evaluating only A sites to help make sure the first location is a winner. The duo of seasoned restaurant entrepreneurs also believes that while prices may be at a premium, “it will be worth it,” he said.

The roll out also includes locations slated for Marlboro, Vineland and Neptune. Further details haven’t been announced. The Asbury Park Press reported recently that Bojangles had eyes on a site in Brick, too.

Founded in 1977, Bojangles has over 800 locations in 20 states. NJ.com noted a previous spot from the brand in Newark closed years ago.

Vaidya has said he and Patel are confident in Bojangles’ appeal and their ability to reintroduce it New Jersey. Together the pair operates nearly five dozen Burger King restaurants in the Northeast under the Dev Foods company.

After evaluating several brands, Vaidya said Bojangles stood out as having “the most unique flavor that we could introduce to the Northeast.”

“We love their spicy, juicy, tender chicken,” he said. “Bojangles offers outstanding fried chicken, the dirty rice, even their iced tea. We wanted to bring something unique and different that wasn’t available in our market.”
