Ferrero North America is launching Peanut. The introduction marks the iconic brand’s first major flavor innovation in over 60 years.

After first teasing the possibility of a nutty variety of the beloved spread last year, the Parsippany-based confectionary giant made it official with an April 15 nationwide rollout.

Ferrero described the new plant-based offering as “not peanut butter,” but rather a combination of Nutella’s classic cocoa-hazelnut profile and roasted peanuts.

According to Ferrero, Nutella Peanut is the first new flavor variety added to the Nutella lineup since the brand launched back in 1964.

The release comes a few weeks after the original Nutella went viral after a jar of floated in zero gravity. The moment appeared inside the Orion spacecraft during a livestream of the Artemis II mission. According to NASA, the crew’s approved food supply included the spread.

Noah Szporn is senior vice president of spreads for . Szporn commented, “Honestly, when a jar of Nutella goes viral floating in space, you start to feel like anything is possible. So naturally our next move as a brand was dropping our first new flavor innovation in over 60 years.”

“Nutella Peanut delivers the same creamy experience fans know and love, now blended with the irresistible taste of roasted peanuts. Our fans have been asking for this for years. We heard them, and afternoon snack time will never be the same,” he said.

Nutella Peanut is available for purchase in 13-ounce jars or 26.5-ounce jar bi-packs at retailers such as Aldi, Amazon, ShopRite, Stop & Shop, Target and Walmart.

According to Ferrero, its new spread is being produced at its 70,000-square-foot chocolate factory in Illinois. The $75 million processing facility opened two years ago as an addition onto the company’s exiting manufacturing campus to handle brands like Butterfinger, Baby Ruth, Crunch and Ferrero Rocher.

Ferrero is also hosting a Nutella Peanut Pop-Up Shop May 16–17 at NoHo in New York City. The free event will feature games, rewards, prizes and snacks.
