NJ BASE launches soft-landing ecosystem in Jersey City

The New Jersey Economic Development Authority and innovation firm SOSA officially opened NJ BASE in Jersey City May 15. The new hub is designed to help international companies establish and grow operations in the United States through New Jersey.

The New Jersey Business Acceleration and Soft-Landing Ecosystem located at 3 Second St. will initially house roughly 15 to 20 companies. Businesses will operate in sectors such as artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, fintech and other emerging technologies.

The 7,200-square-foot space includes coworking areas, conference rooms and event space. SOSA will operate the center as well as oversee a business immersion program aimed at connecting foreign firms with investors, corporations and partners throughout the New Jersey innovation ecosystem.

“The NJEDA is excited to welcome international companies to the Garden State and support their long-term growth in New Jersey,” said Evan Weiss, CEO of the New Jersey Economic Development Authority. “NJ BASE will provide international with the resources, partnerships, and support they need to scale their companies, foster collaboration, and contribute to a stronger and more dynamic innovation economy across the state.”

President and CEO Amy Herbold said the initiative expands the state’s efforts to attract investment.

“This initiative is a meaningful addition to our innovation ecosystem and further solidifies New Jersey’s standing as a leading destination … ” Herbold said.

More that just office space

SOSA Chief Executive Officer Uzi Scheffer said the center intends to offer more for companies entering the U.S. market.

“What we opened isn’t just an office space,” said Scheffer. “It’s a commitment to the founders coming here, that they will walk into an operation that’s already done the work of understanding where the real opportunities are.”

NJEDA Director of International Innovation Andrew Gross said the program will strengthen New Jersey’s long-term competitiveness while attracting companies in strategic industries, “and deepen international partnerships.”

Local leaders also framed the project as part of Jersey City’s growing role within the global innovation economy.

“International companies choosing to plant their flag here will find exactly what they need to grow: world-class talent, easy access to the broader Northeast Corridor, and a city government that is genuinely committed to partnering with the innovation economy,” said Jersey City Mayor James Solomon.

As NJBIZ previously reported, the NJEDA approved the NJ BASE concept in June 2025. The move came as part of a broader effort to attract international companies seeking U.S. expansion through New Jersey. In October, it selected SOSA to operate the Jersey City facility based on the firm’s experience running global accelerator and landing pad programs. SOSA’s past work has focused on sectors such as artificial intelligence, cybersecurity and fintech.
