  • The Hudson County Community College School of Nursing and Health Professions announced Oct. 18 it received the 2024 Higher Education Excellence in Diversity Health Professions Award from Insight Into Diversity magazine. The national HEED honor recognizes United States colleges and universities offering health programs that demonstrate an outstanding commitment to diversity and inclusion. According to the school, HCCC is the sole community college in the United States to receive this award.<br />

  • Rider University held a dedication ceremony Oct. 26 for its newly renovated Gary Taylor Wrestling Center during the school’s Homecoming Weekend celebration. The project was inspired by a $500,000 leadership gift from former All-American wrestler Tim Morrison ’83 and his family. Unveiled during the ceremony, the newly expanded and renovated Tim Morrison & Family Wrestling Room is part of the first phase of the wrestling center project, which more than doubled the size of the facility for Rider’s NCAA Division I team.   • Evesham Township Mayor Jaclyn Veasy, Assemblyman Dr. Herb Conaway Jr. and Assemblywoman Andrea Katz joined with the physicians and staff of South Jersey Fertility Center Oct. 30 to present SJFC with a proclamation honoring its 35 years of service and commitment to the region. Since its founding in 1989, South Jersey Fertility Center has been a pioneer in reproductive medicine, offering compassionate care and cutting-edge treatments to help tens of thousands of patients build their families.<br />

  • New Concepts for Living CEO Steve Setteducati was recently honored with the 2024 Ann Klein Advocate Award by the Community Health Law Project for outstanding contributions made in improving the lives of people living with disabilities. The CHLP Ann Klein Award was established in 1988. Ann Klein was a former commissioner of the New Jersey Department of Health and Human Services who was instrumental in establishing a community-based system of care for people with mental health and physical disabilities.   • Doherty Enterprises Inc., a leading franchisee for Applebee’s Neighborhood Grill + Bar in New York City, Long Island, N.Y., and New Jersey, presented a check for $59,173 to Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation for Childhood Cancer in a special ceremony Oct. 29 at the Applebee’s Grill + Bar in Parsippany. The donations were raised during a summer fundraising campaign across Doherty-owned Applebee’s locations. The proceeds will support ALSF’s mission to fund pediatric cancer research and assist families affected by childhood cancer.   • The Association of Community College Trustees and U.K. Association of Colleges selected Bergen Community College as an inaugural partner for a collaborative student exchange program focused on sustainability with colleges in the United Kingdom. Officially the “U.S.-UK Community College and Technical Education Exchange,” the program will pair Bergen with Southport College in England to collaborate on initiatives related to sustainable construction. ACCT and AoC officials announced program participants at the ACCT’s October leadership congress event in Seattle.
