With 3,750 employees, Quest Diagnostics ranks first on the latest NJBIZ list of life sciences organizations in New Jersey. James Davis leads the Secaucus-based company, which began operations in 1967 and provides diagnostic information services.
The ranking is based on the number of employees in the Garden State.
New Jersey Institute of Technology holds second place with 2,678 workers in Newark. Founded in 1881, the university focuses on science, technology and design.
PIM Brands Inc. claims third position, manufacturing fruit snacks, chocolate, gummi confectionery products, vitamins and supplements from Park Ridge. At the company, lead executives Michael Rosenberg, Ellen Horowitz Dale and Bhavna Ramani manage 1,000 employees. PIM Brands traces its roots to 1979.
Parsippany-based Ferring Pharmaceuticals occupies the fourth spot with 693 workers. Brent Ragans oversees the company, which produces products for reproductive medicine, maternal health, uro-oncology, orthopedics and gastroenterology. The firm was established in 1950.
PTC Therapeutics Inc. rounds out the top five, operating from Warren with 390 employees. The company, founded in 1998, focuses on treatments for children and adults with rare diseases.
