Onyx Equities LLC co-founder and Managing Partner Jonathan Schultz was appointed chair of the board of trustees for the Riverview Medical Center Foundation, the organization announced Feb. 1.

Schultz takes over for outgoing chair Steven Scopellite, who held the role from January 2017 until this past December.

“I am honored to be named as chair of this prestigious foundation,” Schultz, who previously served as treasurer for Riverview Medical Center Foundation, said in a statement.

“Under Steve’s leadership, and in partnership with the board of trustees, hospital and leadership, philanthropy has helped to provide for many projects and services that have enhanced care for our community,” Schultz continued. “I look forward to building on past successes to secure funding that will ultimately benefit patients, physicians and our health care team members.”

According to the hospital, the foundation raised nearly $30 million with Scopellite at its helm. Those efforts, in turn, provided for improvements including the renovation of the 2N/2W Wing, which transformed an entire patient floor into private rooms. He will remain on the board and as a foundation governance committee member.

“There are many significant projects in the works at Riverview Medical Center and now, more than ever, support is needed as the medical center looks to the future and providing the best health care possible for the community,” Scopellite said in a statement. “It has been my pleasure to serve as chair over the last five years, and as a board member since 2011, but I feel confident in Jon’s abilities to lead the board through these challenging times and beyond.”

Schultz’s experience serving on other boards is extensive. According to Riverview Medical Center, that includes with the Big Apple Chapter of YPO, a worldwide network of chief executives and business leaders; and as a board member of the Award of Courage Foundation, where he raised funds for Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, and was a recipient of its Humanitarian Award. He’s also been involved with the boards of public and private technology companies and is a member of Mindaligned, a collective impact initiative via Count Basie Center for the Arts, to create arts-engaged schools.

Tim Hogan, executive vice president, Care Transformation Services and president, chief hospital executive, Riverview Medical Center, described philanthropy as vital to the hospital’s ability to provide the kind of patient care it is known for.

“Steve has been an incredible partner to Riverview Medical Center in his time as board chair and I am grateful for everything he has done to help us advance our mission,” he said. “I look forward to working with Jonathan in his new role and to all of the great work we will accomplish together to ensure that our community continues to have access to the world-class services and care that they expect and deserve.”
