AeroFarms’ line of sustainably grown leafy greens will soon be available at Amazon Fresh’s 40-plus locations nationwide.

Under the expanded distribution agreement announced May 16, the Newark-based indoor agriculture company’s products will also be carried on Amazon Fresh’s online marketplace.

The new partnership builds on AeroFarms’ national launch with Amazon subsidiary Whole Foods Market in October 2022, which marked an industry-first for an indoor grower: being part of the popular supermarket chain’s global planogram.

AeroFarms co-founder and CEO David Rosenberg said, “AeroFarms is excited to continue to scale our national availability with Amazon Fresh to meet the growing consumer demand for our fresh, flavorful and delicious microgreens.”

“We are proud to offer a unique flavor line-up of our Micro Spicy Mix, Micro Arugula and Micro Rainbow Mix to Amazon Fresh customers across the nation,” he said in a statement.

Within New Jersey, Amazon Fresh has one location in Paramus and had expected to open stores in Lodi, Eatontown, Holmdel and Woodland Park. However, in recent months, the e-commerce giant has put its plans to open additional Fresh supermarkets on hold amid a review of its grocery strategy.

Known for its ready-to-eat, pesticide-free specialty greens, AeroFarms has deals with several major retailers, including Ahold Delhaize, Harris Teeter, H-E-B, Walmart and The Fresh Market, in addition to food service partners like Compass Group, Marcus Samuelsson Restaurant Group and Momofuku Noodle Bar.

The 19-year-old company has also established multiyear strategic partnerships with entities ranging from government agencies to major Fortune 500 companies to solve agriculture supply chain needs.

Citing increased consumer demand, AeroFarms unveiled plans in April to relocate production to its commercial farm in Danville, Va., while designating its Newark facilities exclusively for research and development.
