Cooper launches IDD mobile health unit in South Jersey

recently launched a mobile unit as part of its Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities Program. 

The initiative delivers primary care to patients’ homes, community residences and group homes across southern New Jersey. 

The Camden-based health care provider said patients with often find traditional office visits challenging. 

“By meeting patients where they are, we aim to reduce stress, minimize missed appointments and emergency room visits, and improve overall health outcomes,” said Franziska Jovin, senior vice president and chief experience officer, Cooper.

Mobile unit services include: 

  • Routine health assessments 
  • Sick visits 
  • Chronic condition management 
  • Preventive screenings 
  • Medication management 
  • Post-hospitalization follow-up 
  • Health education for patients and caregivers 

A team trained in caring for individuals with IDD – including advanced practice nurses, physicians and support staff – provide on-site visits. These teams work with patients’ primary care doctors to ensure seamless care. 

“Our goal is to remove barriers and promote equity in health care access for people with IDD,” Jovin added. “This program empowers individuals and families by providing the same high-quality care they receive in our offices—right at their doorstep.” 

Adults with IDD also have a recently new option for care at the opposite end of the state. In fall 2025, New Concepts for Living cut the ribbon on a state-of-the-art home in Mahwah for medically fragile individuals with special needs.
