NJ Transit and the Newark Alliance last Wednesday unveiled a FIFA World Cup 2026-themed wrap on a Newark Light Rail vehicle. The display comes as part of the Newark Alliance‘s month-long “Kick It in Newark” campaign aimed at showcasing the city as a destination for visitors during the global tournament.
Unveiled at Newark Broad Street Station, the wrap celebrates Newark’s culture and role as a host city destination while also highlighting public transit as a key connection point for residents and visitors alike.
The campaign comes as the Brick City prepares to welcome visitors during the FIFA World Cup, which will feature eight matches at MetLife Stadium between June 13 and July 19, including the tournament final.
“The World Cup will bring the eyes of the world to New Jersey, and we want every resident and visitor to feel that excitement before the first match kicks off,” Gov. Mikie Sherrill said. “This special Newark Light Rail wrap celebrates the energy that makes Newark such an important part of our state’s story.”
“[W]e want fans to experience Newark as a destination in its own right,” said NJ Transit President and CEO Kris Kolluri. “Partnering with Newark Alliance on this light rail wrap is one way we’re raising awareness of everything this city has to offer during the tournament.”
Ashley Mays, president of Newark Happening and chief marketing officer at Newark Alliance, said the Newark Light Rail will help connect visitors to “the restaurants, arts, entertainment, and local businesses that make Newark unique” during the tournament.
“Through Kick It in Newark, we’re inviting residents and visitors alike to explore the city and experience everything Newark has to offer,” said Mays.

The train wrap reveal also kicks off a series of cultural events planned in Newark during the World Cup. Sherrill said initiatives such as Kick It in Newark are intended to build enthusiasm for the once-in-a-generation event while showcasing the city to visitors from around the world.
