Discount grocer Lidl US is getting ready to launch its newest supermarket in New Jersey.
Located at 80 River St. in Hackensack, the store is scheduled to begin welcoming customers July 30. The chain previously said the store would open about five days earlier.
As part of the first day of shopping at the 23,250-square-foot store, Lidl will hold a 7:40 a.m. ribbon-cutting ceremony. Prior to the festivities, the grocer will give away free freshly baked croissants and coffee to attendees.
Known for fresh produce, meat, bakery items and an array of household products at low prices, German-born Lidl has more than 12,000 stores worldwide. Since establishing a U.S. headquarters a decade ago, the brand has launched almost 190 locations along the East Coast.
Following its grand opening, Lidl in Hackensack will operate 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily.
The launch comes nearly two years after the chain closed nearly a dozen underperforming locations across the U.S., including two in New Jersey: Howell and Burlington.
Locally, Lidl still has over two dozen stores, including sites in Paramus, Livingston, Freehold, Morristown, Bergenfield, Park Ridge, Elmwood Park, Weehawken, Belleville, Bayonne, Union, Garwood, Woodbridge, Hazlet, North Brunswick, Cherry Hill, Brick Township and Eatontown.
In Hackensack, Lidl is taking space at the Print House, a large-scale mixed-use development located at the former site of the Record newspaper. Other tenants include Hackensack Meridian Health, Starbucks, Jersey Mike’s Subs and Blue Foundry Bank.
