Six Flags Great Adventure is looking forward to warmer and sunnier days.

In a Jan. 20 alert, the Jackson-based theme park operator announced the upcoming kickoff of its 2026 season.

According to Six Flags, Great Adventure theme park and animal park will both open March 28 with a weekend-only schedule through Memorial Day weekend.

After May 29, Great Adventure and Wild Safari will welcome guests seven days a week until Labor Day weekend.

water park will open May 23 for the season. It will also wind down after Labor Day. Additionally, limited stays will begin April 3 at Six Flags’ Savannah Sunset Resort and Spa.

Six Flags has not yet released details about special events, new experiences or seasonal offerings planned for 2026. Information on Fright Fest and other Halloween-inspired happenings is typically announced during the summer.

Ups and downs

While the theme park originally expected to debut a new roller coaster this year, Six Flags said last summer it would push back the timeline.

After demolishing the 456-foot Kinga Ka in February, the theme park began construction on a new “multi-world-record-breaking launch roller coaster.”

In a July 2025 statement, Six Flags shared, “As we continue to evaluate our construction projects, we’ve realized that the world-class size and scope of this project means that it will take a bit longer to complete than originally anticipated. To ensure the ride meets our high standards of innovation, thrills and safety that guests expect and deserve, and that we’re able to debut it in the spring so our guests can enjoy it all season, we have revised the timeline beyond 2026.”

However, Six Flags kicked off the 2025 season with a new rollercoaster called The Flash: Vertical Velocity. Billed as a first-of-its-kind family roller coaster, the ride rushes forward and backward at nearly 60 miles per hour through a 180-degree twisted drop and zero-G roll, according to Six Flags.

That grand opening was also postponed. It was originally slated to open in 2024 as part of Great Adventure’s 50th anniversary celebration.

At the time, Six Flags said, “When it comes to delivering fun and safe attractions, we won’t rush the construction process. We appreciate your patience and understanding. We’re confident it will be worth the wait.”
