Monarch Housing Associates Executive Director Kelly believes that housing is a basic human right. As leader of the mission driven, results oriented nonprofit, she’s helping to bring that vision to life by taking a “big picture” approach to housing.

For Kelly, it’s not just about providing affordable housing, but also helping to drive policy changes and bringing development and other partners together to talk to each other. The organization’s clients include private developers, housing authorities, senior housing associations, hospitals, social service agencies, nonprofit organizations and municipalities.

As a result of Monarch’s work, more than 3,000 units of affordable rental housing have been created and/or preserved in New Jersey.

Monarch also works with counties across the state on homeless planning efforts; seeks to influence public policy and legislative conversations; and helps emerging developers in New Jersey to enter the field. One recent success involved helping Foya Development Group secure a highly competitive tax credit for Southside View, a 40-unit property that will open at 654-668 S. 11th St. in Newark’s South Ward. Kelly said the March groundbreaking of Southside View represents the first time a Black woman in the state led the development of a major affordable housing project.
