  • Features include larger food displays, digital menus and raised ceilings
  • , curbside pickup and delivery available
  • Opening day events include giveaways, free coffee and a hoagie contest

Wawa is debuting a refreshed store format in New Jersey.

Scheduled to open Sept. 25 at 245 S. Broadway in Pennsville, the new layout aims to showcase the convenience store chain’s food and beverage offerings while also providing an upgraded interior space for customers and associates.

The exterior features a revamped entryway, cantilever roof canopy and V-shaped steel column inspired by the flying geese formation.

There’s also fuel services, no-charge air stations, enhanced landscaping and improved lighting outside, according to the Pennsylvania-based brand.

Like other Wawas, the upcoming spot will include a built-to-order fresh food kitchen serving the brand’s signature sandwiches and latest food innovations, as well as coffee, baked goods, specialty beverages and packaged goods. The location will also offer mobile ordering, curbside pickup and delivery, as well as Wawa’s catering service.

The new concept calls for a raised ceiling to provide more space and larger windows to allow greater light and increased visibility.

It includes new colors, larger food and beverage displays, extended food service selection, multiple digital screens to display meal selections, public restrooms and surcharge-free ATMs.

Local favorite

“Wawa stores tend to become part of the fabric of the communities they serve. With that in mind, Wawa makes significant long-term investments in each location. A dedicated team of architects, landscape designers, lighting consultants, local site engineers, real estate managers and traffic and parking experts, all work together to plan and develop each site,” the chain said.

New Jersey – which recently ranked Wawa as its favorite c-store – is home to nearly 300 of the brand’s more than 1,100 locations in the U.S.

Located off Interstate 95 in Hope Mills, the 8,000-square-foot site is intended to serve trucks and other professional drivers, as well as typical motorists. Its offerings include six diesel fuel lanes, 20 fuel spots for conventional drivers, tractor trailer parking, a weigh station, pet relief area, a fresh food & beverage area and indoor-outdoor seating.

With a goal to add 1,800 stores nationwide by 2030, Wawa is busy opening more than 70 new locations this year — including its first sites in Ohio, Indiana and Kentucky.

To support that growth, Wawa unveiled its “next generation” store two years ago in Virginia. At the time, Wawa Director of New Michelle Walsh described the refresh as “the next, important step in our continued store evolution journey.”

“It reflects our current ‘best thinking’ for design and efficiency, showcasing our expanding off-premise offers, built-to-order beverages and pizza,” she said. “We will always continue to evolve and enhance our interior and exterior design to create better experiences for our customers and associates, while providing the welcoming experience we are known for that remains our key to success.”

Wawa also just opened its first travel center in North Carolina. Additionally it announced plans to build two more in Ohio and Indiana.

Pennsville debut

Opening-day festivities at Cranberry Plaza in Pennsville will include a ribbon-cutting ceremony with Wawa mascot Wally Goose and a hoagie-building competition among local first responders.

Wawa will also hold a T-shirt giveaway to the first 100 guests starting at 8 a.m.

It will also offer free any-size hot coffee all day through Sept. 28. And the store will highlight the brand’s new$6 meal deal campaign. The package includes a Shorti hoagie, wrap or chicken sandwich with a small fountain drink and bag of Herr’s chips.
