Recognized earlier this year as an In the Leade NJBIZ Family-Owned Busines, NFI has been around since 1932. The logistics provider began as National Hauling in Vineland. From a single truck, the company has grown to a leading third-party logistics provider servicing all of North America with its base in Camden.

Now in its third generation of family leadership, brothers Sidney Brown, CEO; Ike Brown, president and vice chairman; and Jeff Brown, president and vice chairman, lead the company today and its team of more than 18,000 employees. Inspired by their father, Bernard “Bernie” Brown, the current leadership is rooted in family.

The company prides itself on fostering a culture that incorporates all members as part of that group. Looking ahead, NFI continues to diversify its capabilities, including its supply chain, through both organic and acquired growth. Additionally, the Brown brothers have led investments into new technologies, ranging from electric trucks to autonomous robots.

The company’s service offerings include dedicated transportation, distribution, brokerage, transportation management, port drayage, intermodal, global logistics and real estate. Family members that wish to join the business must follow a path that affords them experiences elsewhere. Since returning and learning the ins and outs at NFI, the company says these fourth-generation leaders have also brought new perspectives and experiences.

NFI says it generates more than $3.5 billion in annual revenue and owns and operates more than 71 million square feet of warehouse space. And the company remains one of the economic engines of Camden’s revitalization.
