Tracing its history to 1913, NJM was originally established to provide workers’ compensation to New Jersey’s business community. Today, from its 100-acre campus in West Trenton and two other locations in the state, the company offers a wide range of personal and business insurance products – famously promoting its business with No Jingles or Mascots. It operates as a mutual insurer for the benefit of policyholders.

NJM’s personal insurance products are available direct to consumers in Connecticut, Maryland, New Jersey, Ohio and Pennsylvania. The company also partners with independent agents to provide business insurance in Connecticut, Delaware, Maryland, New Jersey, New York and Pennsylvania.

In October, NJM was named the country’s top insurer in the country by J.D. Power in its 2024 Auto Claims Satisfaction Study. The award is based on feedback from claimants around the U.S.

“This recognition demonstrates NJM’s century-long commitment to policyholder service,” NJM President and CEO Mitch Livingston said at the time. “We are honored that our policyholders have ranked us number one in the nation in the J.D. Power 2024 Auto Claims Satisfaction Study.” The previous month, the company was certified for the seventh consecutive year by J.D. Power for providing “An Outstanding Auto Claims Experience.”

In January, NJM signed a leased for a new, 53,000-square-foot office space at The Arbors campus in Parsipanny. NJM is currently located less than 1 mile away, but officials said it represents a major change for the insurer.
