No matter what you call it (an emphatic, pork roll) there’s no denying the power of your breakfast sandwich’s salty, sweet hero.

Dating to 1856, The Taylor Provisions Co. has been feeding New Jerseyans for centuries. But according to the company history, even before the recipe was refined by his grandson, U.S. Col. John Taylor doled the original mix across Revolutionary War battle fields throughout New Jersey.

Like its tangy cured pork which continues to inspire debates to this day – over it’s name, and relevance for out-of-staters – Taylor Provisions the company is purely Jersey and proud of it.

This year, it, appropriately, served as sponsor of The Somerset Patriots when they played as the Jersey Diners for three games last season. Further south, ShoreTown Ballpark and the Jersey Shore Blue Claws also debuted several food options featuring Taylor Provisions’ signature meat at the Lakewood Stadium.

As something so undeniably Jersey, Taylor Provisions fittingly calls Trenton, the state capital, home.

“We are extremely proud to be one of the longest surviving privately owned food companies in America,” the company writes on its website, calling out other weighty brands that in predates, such as Heinz (founded 1869), Quaker Oats (1901) and Kraft (1903).
