Is it any wonder billionaire entrepreneur Marc Lore’s latest venture would land on this list? Probably not.

The company has grown aggressively in the last year, as it continues its pivot away from the mobile kitchen format it launched with toward something much more.

With brick-and-mortar store fronts rolling out apace – nearly 30 opened in 2024, with others still due – the company’s latest eye-popping play came with its announced $650 million acquisition of GrubHub. The strategic move will offer a platform for Wonder to continue its trajectory, adding a nationwide network of restaurants and delivery people.

Plus, Grubhub will offer third-party delivery for all Wonder locations.

The latest of those opened last month in Randolph, offering 20-plus restaurant menus to diners from one location with delivery, pick-up or dine-in options.

Wonder’s Grubhub announcement also came with word the company raised an additional $250 million. Earlier this year, it secured $700 million.

Though its headquarters has since moved to Manhattan, Wonder was previously based in Cranford and piloted its initial services in Westfield.

It also has an R&D facility in Parsippany. But that footprint is expanding, fast. Announced over the summer, its partnership with FreshRealm, aims to support that goal.

“Given Wonder’s rapid growth and expansion plans, forging a strategic partnership with FreshRealm will not only create immediate efficiencies and room to increase Wonder’s offerings but also help accelerate Wonder’s potential expansion beyond the Northeast,” a Wonder spokesperson told NJBIZ.
