As director of organizing at United Food and Commercial Workers Local 360, Giordano is instrumental in advocating for the rights of cannabis workers and fighting for fair wages, health care benefits, vacation/sick days and retirement options. In New Jersey, he has played a significant part in obtaining labor protections for employees in the state’s burgeoning legalized industry.
Giordano’s union interest began in 2001 when he was a student and employee at Philadelphia University, where he helped lead two organizing efforts to unionize dining service employees on the campus. While finishing college, Giordano worked as a deli clerk at ShopRite in Roxborough, Pa., and joined UFCW Local 152. He also interned with the union and eventually took on the position of union representative/organizer.
In 2022, Giordano began with Local 360, which represents hundreds of thousands of cannabis industry workers in dispensaries, labs, manufacturing, processing, delivery and grow facilities across the U.S.
Since New Jersey’s cannabis laws include a provision requiring companies to negotiate in good faith if employees seek union representation, workers at several ventures – both independently run shops and multistate operators – have unionized.
