The former New Jersey attorney general under Gov. Chris Christie currently serves as a partner and chair of the Litigation Department at Lowenstein Sandler LLP. With his background in government and politics, Porrino can move comfortably among leaders of both parties, to the point that he is involved in nearly every major legal dispute in the state and ends up on the short list for most important jobs. Last year he was named by Gov. Phil Murphy as chair of the Criminal Sentencing and Disposition Commission, tasked with examining racial and ethnic disparities in the local criminal justice system. The panel issued its most recent report last fall, calling for a series of reforms in sentencing designed to make the criminal justice system more fair.
At Lowenstein, Porrino has been able to attract high-profile clients thanks to his real-world prowess, problem-solving skills, and experience across the public and private sectors. Case in point: Orsted. Though the company said Porrino was on the team well before it decided to back out of its Atlantic coastline offshore wind projects, having his name associated with the defense created quite the buzz.
And he continues to recruit high-powered attorneys – most recently bringing on Murphy’s former chief counsel, Parimal Garg. “Parimal was enormously successful as Gov. Murphy’s Chief Counsel because of his brilliance, his impeccable integrity, and his work ethic,” Porrino said at the time. Few public figures occupy the center of New Jersey’s political and economic universe. Porrino does.
