PSE&G

Hanemann began her tenure as president and chief operating office for PSE&G in 2021, gaining further distinction as the first woman to hold the top job for the Newark-based utility.

There, she leads a team of 7,100 people. One of the largest combined electric and gas companies in the U.S., PSE&G is also the state’s oldest and largest publicly owned utility—serving about 2.6 million customers throughout the state.

As ideas around energy as well as its production and consumption continue to evolve, Hanemann sees new opportunities in the space. “Traditionally, people don’t think of utility work as sexy,” she wrote on LinkedIn. “That is changing. The challenges presented by climate change and evolving lifestyles make this an exciting and transformative time for us and our industry.”

And under her guidance, PSE&G is rising to that challenge. According to its latest Clean Energy Future Energy Efficiency report, approximately 1.9 million PSE&G customers have saved nearly $640 million annually on utility bills through energy-saving tools offered by the utility. On the back end, efforts also aim to bolster the future workforce in the space, too. Through the Clean Energy Jobs Program, more than 2,700 individuals have already found placement in such roles throughout the state.
