As chief executive officer of American Dream, Ghermezian was responsible for the development, construction, planning and contract negotiation – and continues to handle leasing – for the 3-million-square-foot venue in East Rutherford.

Since opening in October 2019, American Dream has steadily grown the lineup of retail, dining and entertainment options. The growth comes as part of Ghermezian’s vision for the property – providing unparalleled attractions and innovative retail in an architecturally impressive, customer-focused environment.

Using his close relationships with the leading forces and brands in the entertainment and retail industries, Ghermezian has been the driving force behind the development of the unique mix at American Dream. In addition to hundreds of stores, multiple flagship shops and a luxury retail wing, the property boasts an indoor theme park, water park and ski slope.

Before taking the helm at American Dream, Ghermezian was involved with operation and development of the 4.8-million-square foot Mall of America in Minnesota and 5.3-million-square foot West Edmonton Mall in Canada. All three properties are owned by Triple Five Group, a family-run real estate conglomerate founded by Ghermezian’s grandfather back in the 1970s.
